PBSS Instructor Roles

These roles have been selected to be given to PBSS instructors as first right of refusal. Please do not share this application outside the Corps of Instructors. What makes these roles unique is they all include a degree of management and are not solely a cast role. Remember this is an optional activity and not required from anyone if none of these roles catch your attention you do NOT have to do them. There is also no guarantee of any specific role just because of PBSS status, we have to cast the right person to a role for the faire. If a role isn’t listed on the form for you to select it has already been filled.

Please note you must be available for all 4 event days December 14, 15, 21, 22 from 8:30-6:30pm

All roles listed below are paid at $20 per hour.

In charge of the weapon classes and those who are instructing them. Ensures the safety of participants at all times. Answers questions about the weapon display setup and is essentially the PBSS ambassador for the event. Can teach some weapon classes but should mostly be focused on managing the other instructors. Must have a strong knowledge of the weapons and the manuals as well as how the PBSS runs. Should be capable of managing a schedule.

In character is the most accomplished warrior in Dunsky and is now in charge of the Warriors Guild. Presents certificates and awards for completing Warrior Guild challenges.

In charge of the targe booth and ensuring that the targe demo is ongoing. This person will give talks about targes and the Scottish Highlanders (including McBane of course). They will manage their targe makers as well as help people choose the correct targe for them and fit the arm strap. As well as the ability to manage you should have the ability to talk about the history and have of course completed at least 1 targe (prior to the event you will complete up to level 3 targes).

In character this is an experienced highland craftsman running a thriving workshop. They have a gift for geometry and seeing the patterns that connect all things and use those gifts to make beautiful and deadly shields.

In charge of the weapons booth probably the most popular booth at any Ren Faire. This person will manage the staff working at the booth but will also provide the magical experience of helping a person find the sword that fits them best. For this role you need to have a love of all swords and a willingness to learn about the different makers so you are able to help connect people with the sword that is right for them.

In character every warrior remembers meeting Sword Olivander and getting their first sword and every sword after. As well as swords you will sell everything from crossbows to spears. Your goal is to fit a warrior to the piece that will stand at their side through all of lives adventures.

In charge of the faceless cast. You will organize the 10 faceless cast members as they move through the day changing their roles and becoming Town Guards, Town Criers, Dragon Riders, Bee Keepers, and Archaeologists. At times you will join the town guards in the square and run drills for them, at other points you will help the archaeologists dig the ruins of Dunsky. You will be the leader of a group of talented performers who make Dunsky feel real. You will need to be good at managing a mixed group and keeping them on task. If you are looking for the most diverse job in the faire this one is it.

In character you are the Captain of the Town Guard and are highly respected by all in Ard Crannach. You have many secret identities though that allow you to move through the town and keep on top of all that is going one. They say that your spies are everywhere.

In charge of the various ranges which include, archery, crossbow, staff-sling, throwing knives, and throwing axes. Your primary job is keeping everyone safe. In a secondary role you manage the staff and ensure participants know what they are doing so they can enjoy themselves. You will be given access to a practise range prior to the event so you can gain confidence with the various weapons. You need to complete the range safety training at PBSS prior to November 1.

In character you run the mercenary guild who provide artillary support for Dunsky, at a price of course. You are always interested in new long range weaponry and any skilled users who could join your company.

In charge of the crafting classes you will ensure that the crafting area is ready for each class and that the classes stick to the schedule. You are also in charge of the crafting trader tent which sells crafting kits following the classes. You may teach some of the crafting classes yourself but more you will help manage the other instructors undertaking the role.

In character you are the most accomplished artist in Dunsky. You are a genius of creation and whenever something needs made you are who the people of Ard Crannach turn to.

In charge of the music classes you will spend the day teaching beginner music classes on historical instruments and talking about the history of the various instruments. You will also be in charge of the music shop that has various instruments for sale. You need to have some musical ability with at least one instrument and the ability to read music fluently and teach others the basics.

In character you are the maestro, everyone’s favourite musician. You organise the music for all the big events in the town and it would seem that any bard that has become anything has gone through you.

In charge of the portal. You are the first character guests will meet and are a strict but fair portal officer. You manage the ticket and inspection desk and the team of staff in that role. You will answer questions about the event and the trolley transport that is moving people to and from the event. 

In character you are a dedicated public servant whose job is to manage and maintain the stable portal that has opened between the worlds. It is up to you to ensure all coming and going humans and nonhumans follow very basic rules for their own safety.
