Journey to Ard Crannach
From Portal Pass Control, you can choose to travel to the event site either by shuttle or on foot. As you make your way, you’ll pass through the magical portal and find yourself transported to the Isle of Dunsky, specifically to the bustling town of Ard Crannach.
Exploring Ard Crannach
Ard Crannach is alive with excitement, especially during the Winter Solstice when the Oak King is crowned and the Holly Queen steps down. To celebrate this grand occasion, a vibrant market has sprung up, filled with artisans selling their handcrafted wares and entertainers performing for the delight of all.
Activities and Entertainment
- The Market: Browse through stalls offering unique crafts, jewelry, clothing, and more, all inspired by the rich lore of Dunsky.
- Artificer’s Guild: Participate in hands-on crafting sessions, learning skills like blacksmithing, leatherworking, and calligraphy from experienced artisans.
- Warriors Guild: Train in the arts of sword fighting, archery, axe and knife throwing, and other warrior skills under the guidance of seasoned trainers.
- Games: Join the local Game Master for traditional games such as Hneftafl and table jousting, or engage in a tea duel.
- Santa’s Workshop: Travel through a portal to the North Pole and visit Nicholas of the Whispering Pines (the 4th Santa Claus) in his magical workshop. Witness the enchantment firsthand and participate in the tradition of bringing a small gift or toy for Santa to give to those less fortunate.
Food and Drink
The town features two bustling taverns, offering a variety of food and drink options to satisfy your hunger and thirst. Enjoy traditional fare like turkey legs, pickles, and baked goods, as well as Scottish-themed dishes. Quench your thirst with a selection of alcoholic beverages, hot cocoa, mulled cider, and other soft drinks, all while enjoying the entertainment.
The Day’s Finale
As the sun begins to set, the portal becomes less stable. To ensure your safe return home, it’s advised to leave before sunset. Staying beyond this time may risk being trapped in Dunsky forever, adding a thrilling end to your magical day at the Faire.
Prepare for a day filled with magic, adventure, and unforgettable experiences as you step into the world of Dunsky at the Celtic Winter Faire. Enjoy every moment, from the enchanting arrival to the spectacular events and activities throughout the day.
What to Wear
Dress in layers to stay comfortable in varying weather conditions. Period costumes are encouraged but not required. Wearing comfortable shoes is essential as you’ll be doing a lot of walking. Even if you are not dressing in costume you may want to support your Court and wear a Holly symbol if you are born between December 21 & June 21 or an Oak symbol if you are born between June 21 & December 21.
Lords
- Tunic and Trousers: A simple, comfortable tunic paired with trousers is a perfect base. Look for natural fabrics like linen or cotton for breathability.
- Boots: Sturdy, comfortable boots are ideal for walking around the Faire.
- Belt and Pouch: Add a leather belt and a small pouch for authenticity and practicality.
- Cloak or Cape: For added flair and warmth, consider wearing a cloak or cape.
- Hat: A medieval-style hat or even a simple woolen cap can complete the look.
Ladies
- Long Dress or Skirt and Blouse: A long, flowing dress or a skirt with a peasant blouse creates a classic look. Choose fabrics that are light and breathable.
- Bodice or Corset: A bodice or corset adds structure and authenticity to the outfit.
- Comfortable Shoes: Flats or low-heeled boots are practical and fit the period style.
- Shawl or Cloak: For warmth and added style, a shawl or cloak can be worn.
- Headpiece: Consider a simple floral crown, a headscarf, or a medieval-style hat.
Fae
All Fae are reminded that the portal may cause issues with any glamour that is in place. Please also keep in mind that Ard Crannach throughout the month of December has many portal visitors that may not be accustomed to seeing completely undressed Fae Folk and so clothing is required. Please refrain from flight and excessive magic use in Ard Crannach and maintain human height levels for your own safety.

If you prefer to immerse yourself in the spirit of the Faire by dressing up but don’t have a costume, don’t worry! There are plenty of opportunities to purchase clothing at the event from our talented vendors. You’ll find a variety of outfits and accessories to choose from, ensuring you look the part and feel fully immersed in the magical atmosphere of Ard Crannach.
